There are almost 15 partner devices from 12 OEMs which are now available to get Android Q Beta via OTA. Thanks to Project Treble, It’s getting quite faster by the end of Summer this year. Here in this guide, we will share with you How to Install Android Q Beta on Essential Phone (PH-1) [Developer Preview]. Steps to enable Dark theme:
- A new system setting (Settings > Display > Theme) lets the user enable the Dark theme.
- A new Quick Settings shortcut toggle lets the user quickly switch themes from the notification tray (once enabled).
- On Pixel devices, the Battery Saver mode also enables Dark theme at the same time. Other OEMs may or may not support this behavior.

How to get Android Q Beta OTA on Essential PH-1
In order to get the latest OTA of Android Q Beta 3 build, you can download and install the official Essential Q Beta app from the Google Play Store directly.
Steps to Flash Android Q Beta on Your Essential Phone (PH-1)
To get the Android Q Beta system image on your Essential Phone, you’ll need to download it, then Install Android Q Beta on Essential Phone.
Download Android Q Beta 3 for Essential PH-1
- Android 10.0 – Beta 3 – PQ1A.190404.051 | Download OTA
- Android 10.0 – Beta 3 – PQ1A.190404.051 | Download Fastboot
Once you’ve downloaded the system image file for your device, follow the instructions provided below to flash the image onto your Essential Phone officially.
Flashing Instructions:
- Download the fastboot tool from the Android SDK Platform-Tools package
- Add it to your path so the flash scripts can find it
- Connect your Essential phone to your computer with a USB cable
Enable OEM Unlock from Developer options:
- Tap Settings, then tap System > About phone
- Scroll to the bottom of the page, then tap Build number multiple times until you see the pop-up message “You are now a developer” (It usually takes seven taps)
- Go back one screen to System, then tap Developer options
- Find the option: OEM Unlocking and turn it on
- Find the option: USB Debugging and turn it on
Fastboot Mode:
- Use the ADB tool packaged above to run the command: adb reboot bootloader
- Reboot your phone while holding the Volume-down button
Unlock Bootloader:
- Run the command: fastboot flashing unlock
- Press the Volume-down button to navigate to the YES option, then press the Power button to confirm. Your Essential Phone will reboot.
- While your Essential Phone is rebooting, hold the Volume-Down button to return to Fastboot mode.
- Run the command: fastboot flashing unlock_critical
- Press the Volume-Down button to navigate to the YES option, then press the Power button to confirm. Your Essential Phone will reboot.
- While your Essential Phone is rebooting, hold the Volume-Down button to return to Fastboot mode.
Flash Factory Image:
- Download the factory image to your computer
- Unzip the downloaded file
- Go to where you unzipped the images
- For Windows – Run the command: flashall.bat
Relock your bootloader:
After complete flashing, it’s recommended to relock your bootloader for security reasons.
- Go back to fastboot mode
- Run the command: fastboot flashing lock
- Go back to fastboot mode
- Run the command: fastboot flashing lock_critical
- You’re done. Now, you’ve successfully installed Android Q Beta on Essential Phone. Enjoy!
