Despite the rumors, Samsung did not offer us a solution to disable Bixby on Samsung Galaxy S10, S10 Plus, and S10E. However, the South Korean tech giant pledged to improve the service, and, after the launch of the Galaxy S10 lineup, Samsung rolls out frequent updates of its apps, including Bixby. But the problem is that the Bixby service is usually opening up due to accidental Bixby button presses, such as when the device is in our pocket.
While Samsung is pushing Bixby since it’s a service that most likely cost the company a lot of money, some users don’t see it so useful as the South Korean tech giant would want us to believe. Accordingly, some Samsung Galaxy S10 users would love to turn off Bixby and its button or at least associate it with another, more helpful application.
Even though Samsung did not provide users with the option to disable Bixby, there are some workaround solutions to shut down Bixby, sort of. Therefore, in this article, you’ll learn how to disable Bixby on your Samsung Galaxy S10, S10 Plus, and S10E if you’re also annoyed by the fact that a simple accidental Bixby button press would turn on the service.
How To Disable Bixby on Your Samsung Galaxy S10, S10 Plus, and S10E?
As I’ve already mentioned above, there is no solution to shut down Bixby entirely. However, there are some workaround methods you can apply to avoid the service from launching due to accidental Bixby button pressed.
The first thing you should do when you want to disable Bixby on your Galaxy S10, S10 Plus, and S10E is to sign in to your Samsung Account. That an essential step because some options on your smartphone won’t be available without a Samsung Account. If you don’t have an account yet, you can easily set one up directly on your smartphone.
Once you’re connected to your Samsung Account, you can move on to disabling the Bixby button.
Turn off Bixby Home
The Bixby Home is the screen that pops up when we press the Bixby button. Turning it off is the first step to disabling the Bixby button.
From your Samsung Galaxy S10 smartphone’s home screen, tap on an empty space and wait until the menu shows up. Once it appears, swipe to the right to reach the last panel on the left. Next, you can disable Bixby Home.
Disable Bixby Button
Now that you turned off the Bixby Home, you can perform a workaround to avoid the Bixby service from opening up due to accidental Bixby button presses.
Remember that you can’t actually disable Bixby on your Samsung Galaxy S10, S10 Plus, and S10E, but you can make the service open up after two presses of the Bixby button instead of one. Here’s how to do that:
- Go to Settings on your smartphone
- Next, access the Advanced Features section
- Tap on Bixby Key
- Choose “Double press to open Bixby”
Remap Bixby button
In addition to the methods from above, you can finally remap Bixby button on Samsung Galaxy S10 smartphones. To do that, you should go to Settings -> Advanced Features -> Bixby Key. Once you’re there, you’ll have to opt for either “Use double press” or “Use single press” to choose another app or quick command.
You can remap the Bixby button to any other application in your smartphone, except for Google Assistant, something that disappoints some Galaxy S10 users.
Hopefully, this short guide helped you disable Bixby on your Samsung Galaxy S10, S10 Plus, and S10E, or at least remap the button to an app that you find more useful than Samsung’s Bixby.
