How to Root Cobalt SM 5 Using Magisk [No TWRP needed]

Here in this guide, we will guide you to root Cobalt SM 5 device easily via installing Magisk. There is no need to install TWRP Recovery. As we all know that Android is known for its simplicity and customizations. Steps To Root Cobalt SM 5 Using Magisk

We will use the Magisk by patching the Stock Boot image file and flash it on your device system boot partition. You just need to download the patched image file from Magisk Manager and flash it.

  1. Rooting may void the device warranty. Check out the official warranty guidelines.
  2. Rooting will block the automatic OTA updates. To get updates via OTA, you can unroot your device.

Pre-Requirements:

  • Make sure to keep battery charge on your phone at least 50%-60% to avoid occasional shutdowns during the installation.
  • Before starting anything, it’s highly recommended to take a complete backup of your device data.
  • This image file is for Cobalt SM 5 only. Don’t use it on any other Android devices.
  • You need a PC/Laptop and a USB cable of your device to connect.
  • Make sure that you have downloaded all the required files on your PC/Laptop.

How to Extract and Patch Boot.image using Magisk?

  • First, you need to download and extract the ROM to your PC.
  • Attach your device via a USB cable and copy the boot.img file only to your device storage.
  • Now, launch the Magisk Manager. When a popup appears to install Magisk, select Install and choose ‘Install’ again.
  • Tap on “Patch Boot Image File”.

  • Navigate to the internal storage and select the boot image file.
  • Wait for a few seconds and Magisk will start patching the boot image file automatically.
  • Once the boot image file has been patched, copy the “patched_boot.img” file from the internal storage and replace it in the same extracted ROM folder on your computer.

Now, you need to follow the second step to flash the patched-boot-image file.

Steps to Install the Patched Boot Image on Cobalt SM 5

In some cases, if the above-mentioned method doesn’t work on your Cobalt SM 5, then try via ADB and Fastboot method.
  • Extract ADB fastboot tool then you must move the patched boot image to the same folder. Hold the Shift key and click on the right mouse button in the blank space to open the command window/PowerShell.
  • Run the following command in the command prompt and hit enter.

fastboot flash recovery [filename.img]

Please replace [filename.img] with the name of the TWRP Recovery img file you downloaded followed by the .img extension.

  • The flashing process will start and it’s completed, run the below command and press enter to boot your device into normal mode again. (This boot may take 10-15 minutes for the first time)

Steps to Verify the Systemless Root on your device

  • Download and install the Magisk Manager app APK, and open it.
  • If you see that all the options are marked with Green Tick that means you have successfully rooted and bypassed SafetyNet your device.
